Abstract
Respecting Faces: Maintaining Vertical Control and Respecting Anterior Limit of Dentition in Treatment of High Angle Growing and Non Growing Patient
di Naci Mirlinda
The aim of orthodontic intervention is to intercept, or correct skeletal discrepancies and reestablish the function of dentition and esthetics of the smile and the face. In the growing patient, having the possibility to intercept the anomaly from the early stages of development offers possibilities for better controlling dentofacial development. Our challenge is to carefully follow up the growing patient for some years until the dentofacial development is completed. In hiperdivergent growing patients, even more so, because it is difficult to attain a predictable control of growth of the maxilla-mandibular complex. Success requires correct diagnosis of the skeletal disharmony, good timing of the treatment, collaboration of the patient, favorable direction of growth. Treatment is lengthy. On the other hand treating grown patients with hiperdivergent pattern, many times means that other components of an anomaly has added up, and the uncertainty of a good orthodontic result remains there. The treatment is challenging and has its limitation. In this presentation we speak of the recovery of normal occlusion and facial balance in growing and non growing patients. The discussion remains: When is best to treat these patients, what mechanics. With the new technologies maybe we will be able to treat these patients more efficiently in the near future.
